IHeartRadio: *NSYNC Expected To Reunite For A New Song Soon

It’s finally happening! Well, maybe. A source recently told Entertainment Tonight that *NSYNC may be reuniting for the upcoming third installment of the Trolls movies, which stars Justin Timberlake. The new movie, Trolls Band Together, is actually about a boyband reuniting so the real-life reunion would be fitting.

JC ChasezLance BassJoey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick are expected to have surprise roles in the third Trolls film, Trolls Band Together, with Justin Timberlake,” the source revealed. They went on to add that the band will also release a new song for the movie. ET reached out to Universal and the studio chose to not comment on the news. If the rumors are true, the new song would mark the first release from *NYSNC in over a decade. Their last single release as a group was “Girlfriend” in 2001.

The exciting news comes just weeks after Timberlake raised eyebrows after wishing JC a happy birthday by posting a video of them clearly working on music in the studio. Fans have been holding out for an *NSYNC reunion for years. In 2022, the reunion rumors were reignited after recent birthday boy JC joined TikTok and tagged his former bandmates in one of his first posts. Earlier this year, Bass opened up about the possibility of a full reunion. “I think it just has to be the right time; we all have to be inspired in the moment,” he said. “But I do think the world needs something again from *NSYNC. I always feel bad that there was no ending, because we didn’t have a final show, we didn’t have a final tour, because we didn’t know it was the final days.” The singer added, “we owe it to the fans to give them something at some point.”

Page Six: *NSYNC set to reunite with Justin Timberlake for release of first song in more than 20 years: report

Here we go … one more time?

*NSYNC has reportedly gotten back together to create new music for the latest installment of the “Trolls” film franchise.

Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass are set to release a new song for the upcoming movie “Trolls Band Together,” a source told “Entertainment Tonight” Friday.

The insider also claimed that all five members of the iconic boy band are “expected to have surprise roles” in the animated musical comedy, due out in theaters Nov. 17.

trailer for “Trolls Band Together” appears to tease the rumored reunion, with one character Floyd, played by Troye Sivan, telling Timberlake’s character, Branch, “We’re out of sync” in the clip.“We’ve gone from boys to men, and now there’s only one direction for us to go: to the back streets,” he adds, seemingly also referencing groups Boyz II Men and Backstreet Boys.

Page Six has reached out to reps for Timberlake, Chasez, Fatone, Kirkpatrick and Bass for confirmation but did not immediately hear back.

Universal Studios and DreamWorks Animation, the respective distributor and production company for the movie, also did not immediately return requests for comment.

This would be the first time in more than two decades that *NSYNC has put out a musical project. Their last single, “Girlfriend,” off of their fourth and final studio album, “Celebrity,” was released in 2002.

Timberlake went on to have a successful solo career with chart-topping albums and hits, including “Cry Me a River” and “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” off of the first “Trolls” movie’s soundtrack.

Since *NSYNC parted ways, however, the “Bye, Bye, Bye” singers have made a few public appearances together, much to the amusement of their devoted fandom.

In August 2013, they performed with Timberlake, now 42, at the MTV VMAs in Brooklyn, NY.

Five years later, the pop group reunited in Los Angeles to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

*NSYNC, minus Timberlake, then surprised fans at Coachella in 2019 for a rendition of their hit “Tearin’ Up My Heart” alongside Ariana Grande, who stepped in for the “Sexyback” singer.

Over the years, many have speculated that perhaps Timberlake’s success is part of the reason *NSYNC has not reunited sooner, but Kirkpatrick, 51, told Page Six exclusively in October 2022 that another member was hesitant to get back into the spotlight.

The “Celebrity Big Brother” alum said of Chasez, 47, at the time, “I don’t know if there was a bad taste in his mouth from his first record or what, but I know that there’s a bad taste in his mouth from something, and he just won’t put [new music] out no matter what.”

If the rumblings about “Trolls Band Together” are true, Chasez’s cold feet may have finally gone away.

US Weekly: Why ‘NSync Fans Are Convinced the Boy Band Will Announce a Reunion Concert

‘NSync fans are in a frenzy after several members of the iconic boy band have hinted at a possible reunion via social media.

While Lance Bass often talks about his experiences as a ‘90s heartthrob online, some of the singer’s recent TikTok posts have centered around his time in the group. “POV: you’re doing chores and start getting flashbacks,” Bass, 44, captioned a July 6 upload, featuring himself dancing to ‘NSync’s “Here We Go” while doing housework.

In addition to putting his ‘NSync music knowledge to the test and having his husband, Michael Turchinrank his most memorable outfits in more July TikTok uploads, Bass also addressed potential reunion rumors. “Me staring at the incoming call from my manager after I made another joke on TikTok about *NSYNC getting back together,” he captioned a July 24 post.

Bass continued to add fuel to reunion rumors by quizzing himself and TikTokers Kate Steinberg and Rod on ‘90s music lyrics — including multiple ‘NSYNC songs — on Thursday, August 17. “I think you do well in a band,” Rod joked to Bass at the end of the video.

Fellow member JC Chasez has also hinted at a potential comeback as he recently starred in a boy band-inspired commercial for the cat food company Meow Mix. “I think working with the Tabby 5, it has left me thinking about other boy band ventures. You never know what could happen,” he teased in an Instagram ad on Wednesday, August 16.

Earlier this month, Justin Timberlake caused fans to freak out after posting a throwback snap of him and Chasez, 47, in the studio together in honor of the latter’s birthday.

Some of the biggest reunion hints so far have come not from the members themselves, but from music manager Melinda Bell. “#wheelsup for a loooong day, but I wouldn’t change a thing,” she tweeted on Thursday. She followed up the post with an update one day later, writing, “Finally #wheelsup a great productive day. Oh and happy birthday @jw7680 and yes *NSYNC fans you are the best with your clue hinting. Xo.”

Many fans are questioning Bell’s posts. “But…But…But…will we be rewarded for our clue hunting skills?” one fan wrote via X (formerly known as Twitter), while another joked: “I will sell my leg to see #NYSYC … We are dying over here to know more information. PLEASE LET THERE BE A TOUR. PLEASE.”

The band — which also includes members Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick — previously reunited sans Timberlake, 42, for a surprise Coachella performance with Ariana Grande in 2019. Fatone, 46, later revealed Timberlake was unable to join them due to his own tour at the time.

PopCulture: *NSYNC Reported to Reunite for Upcoming Film With Justin Timberlake

The Trolls movies are about to get an influx of *NSYNC fans. The trailer for DreamWorks’ upcoming animated movie Trolls Band Together, the third installment of the Trolls franchise, includes a hint about the storyline of Justin Timberlake’s character, Branch, who is in the process of reuniting with his boy band. A source has now told Entertainment Tonight, “JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are expected to have surprise roles in the third Trolls film, Trolls Band Together, with Justin Timberlake.” According to the source, the quintet will also reunite as “NSYNC” to release a new song, the first single the group has released together since 2001’s “Girlfriend.” In response to ET’s inquiry, Universal has not yet confirmed this news, nor is the studio commenting on it at this time.

In the trailer for Trolls Band Together, it appears as though Branch’s character is connected to Timberlake’s past boy band days. It is revealed in the trailer that Branch, along with his four brothers —Troye Sivan, Kid Cudi, Daveed Diggs, and Eric André — were once part of a group called BroZone together. Upon learning that one of the brothers, Floyd (Sivan), has been kidnapped, John Dory (André) sets out to find Branch in order to reunite them. “Branch, we’re out of sync,” Floyd tells his brother in a trailer flashback, further suggesting boy band connections. “We’ve gone from boys to men, and now there’s only one direction for us to go: to the back streets.”

Fans have been requesting an NSYNC reunion for years, and the members have gathered in different configurations for several special events, the most recent being Ryan Cabrera’s wedding to Alexa Bliss, for which they performed “Bye Bye Bye.” However, Timberlake would be performing with the other four members for the first time since 2002, when they split up as a group. Timberlake told The Radio Times (via The Mirror) in January 2021 that he wouldn’t rule out reuniting with *NSYNC but to “never say never.” The singer told the Radio Times that while his personal life and family were his primary concern, he hasn’t ruled out a reunion in “months or years to come.” In response to a question about reuniting with the boys, the “Can’t Stop The Feeling” singer explained: “I don’t have a crystal ball for what will happen with the music industry in the months, or years, to come. That’s something that weighs on my mind in a heavy way. “We will have to see what happens in terms of live music, and I appreciate the question, but my focus right now is on [his 2021 film] Palmer.”

ET: *NSYNC Expected to Reunite for New Song in ‘Trolls Band Together’: Source (Exclusive)

Is Trolls Band Together about to reunite one of the greatest boy bands of all time?

After the trailer for the upcoming animated film — the third installment in DreamWorks’ Trolls franchise — hinted at a boy band reunion storyline for Justin Timberlake’s character, Branch, a source exclusively tells ET, “JC Chasez, Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick are expected to have surprise roles in the third Trolls film, Trolls Band Together, with Justin Timberlake.”

The source added that the quintet will also reunite as *NSYNC to release a new song for the movie — their first song together since 2001’s “Girlfriend.”

ET has reached out to Universal, but the studio has not confirmed this news and is not commenting.

The Trolls Band Together trailer does seem to tease the connection between Branch’s character and Timberlake’s real-life boy band past, revealing that Branch and his four brothers — played by Troye SivanKid CudiDaveed Diggs and Eric André — were once in a group together called BroZone.

When one brother, Floyd (Sivan), is kidnapped, John Dory (André) tracks Branch down to reunite the group and save their brother.

“Branch, we’re out of sync,” Floyd tells his brother in a flashback included in the trailer, making more hints at the boy band connections. “We’ve gone from boys to men, and now there’s only one direction for us to go: to the back streets.”

While fans have been asking about an *NSYNC reunion for years now, and the group members have assembled in different combinations for some special events — most recently to perform “Bye Bye Bye” at Ryan Cabrera’s wedding to Alexa Bliss —  this would mark the first time that Timberlake has performed with the other four members since their 2002 split.

When ET spoke to Fatone after the group — sans Timberlake — reunited to join Ariana Grande onstage at Coachella in 2019, he admitted it made him nostalgic for touring days and said “never say never” when it comes to getting the group fully back together.

“We were excited, but it was Ariana’s show,” Fatone recalled. “So we were just like, ‘Hey, we’re coming in, having a great time.’ And that’s what we did. We had a blast doing it ’cause it was, like, two songs, let’s have fun, no stress on us.”

Parade Magazine: *NSYNC Reunion Rumors: What We Know So Far

Is an NSYNC reunion happening? If you trust blind items (which, historically, you shouldn’t), then you might have your hopes up for a reunion tour with Justin Timberlake and the members he left behind: Lance BassJC ChasezJoey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick. Here’s what we know about the potential for getting the boy band back together and whether or not you should hold your breath.

What does NSYNC stand for?

Honestly? Mostly nonsense and a gimmick. It’s the last letter of each of the original members’ first names: JustiN, ChriS, JoeY, JasoN and JC.

You’ll notice that Lance Bass isn’t there, and instead “Jason” is. That stands for former member Jason Galasso, who left the group before they ever performed.

What happened to the NSYNC members?

Where is each member of NSYNC now? All over the place:

Justin Timberlake

We all know what happened to Justin Timberlake: He went on to be a massive multi-Grammy-winning solo star, performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show twice, and is an established film actor. He’s a dad of two sons with wife Jessica Biel and even apologized to his ex Britney Spears for how he treated her in the media after their highly-publicized split.

JC Chasez

JC Chasez, inarguably the group’s best vocalist, saw his solo career stall after his debut album Schizophrenic was delayed several times, and promotion for the project came to an unfair halt after Timberlake’s Super Bowl Halftime Show wardrobe malfunction with Janet Jackson. Chasez’s second album, The Story of Kate, was delayed so many times it was canceled altogether. From there, he succeeded in other pursuits. He’s produced and written music for artists including NSYNC rivals The Backstreet BoysThe Pussycat Dolls and more, and was a judge on America’s Best Dance Crew. He’s reportedly working on a musical.

Joey Fatone

Joey Fatone became an actor, with memorable turns in My Big Fat Greek Wedding and its sequels, as well as in numerous stage productions. He’s been a TV staple as well, competing on Dancing with the Stars, announcing Family Feud and guest-starring in shows including Hannah Montana.

Lance Bass

Lance Bass founded a music management company, Free Lance Entertainment, in 2000, and almost went to space before a bunch of billionaire bozos made it trendy. He appeared in a slew of movies and TV shows, including ZoolanderCursedI Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry and Tropic Thunder, and provided voice acting to the iconic Final Fantasy VII villain Sephiroth in Kingdom Hearts.

In 2006, Bass came out as gay after facing pressure from bloggers who threatened to out him before he was ready.

Bass has competed on several series, including My Kitchen Rules and Dancing with the StarsHe currently hosts a podcast, Frosted Tips With Lance Bass, and is pals with Britney Spears post-conservatorship.

Chris Kirkpatrick

After NSYNC disbanded, Chris Kirkpatrick fronted the rock band Nigel’s 11 (shoutout to This Is Spinal Tap!) for several years. He then starred in MTV’s reality series Mission Man Band, forming the boy band supergroup Sureshot with Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees and Bryan Williams from Color Me Badd.

Kirkpatrick has dabbled in voice acting as a pop star on The Fairly OddParents and appeared in other reality shows, including Celebrity Big BrotherGone Country and The Masked Singer.

Will NSYNC ever do a reunion tour?

There have been rumors, rumblings and blind items suggesting that NSYNC may have a reunion tour in 2024, but nothing has been substantiated or deemed credible as yet.

When was the last time NSYNC performed together?

NSYNC last performed together in 2013 to mark Timberlake’s Video Vanguard Award at the MTV Video Music Awards. Before that, it was a performance of the national anthem at the 2004 NSYNC Challenge for Children.

Why did Jason leave NSYNC?

Jason Galasso has said he left NSYNC because he didn’t want to be seen as a heartthrob. He dropped out of the group after the first weeks of rehearsals, leading Timberlake’s vocal coach to recommend Bass to fill in the bass vocal role. Galasso now lives a quiet, normal life in Florida.

Who was the most successful member of NSYNC after the group disbanded?

As if you didn’t know the answer to this. Justin Timberlake has been solidly A-list since going solo, expanding his career from music to film acting and winning a ton of Grammys, playing the Super Bowl Halftime Show (twice, if you count his Janet Jackson career-ending cameo) and more.

Is NSYNC touring in 2023?

So far, no. We’re already midway through August 2023, and no tour plans have been announced yet—so if it does ever happen, it’s unlikely to be this year.

Will Justin Timberlake ever reunite with NSYNC?

In January 2021, Timberlake told The Radio Times (via The Mirror) that while he didn’t plan on reuniting with NSYNC, to “never say never.” That means the door is open, even if only a crack, but a full reunion remains to be seen. There has been speculation that Timberlake and NSYNC may reunite for a song for the upcoming film Trolls Band Together (after Timberlake had a massive hit with “Don’t Stop the Feeling”), but no one has confirmed the rumors just yet.

If Timberlake doesn’t rejoin the group for live performances, Bass has suggested that he’d love Glee star Darren Criss to take Timberlake’s place.

When did NSYNC release their last album?

NSYNC’s last album, Celebrity, was released on July 24, 2001. Since then, they’ve released three compilation albums: Greatest Hits (Oct. 25, 2005), The Collection (Jan. 25, 2010) and The Essential *NSYNC (July 29, 2014).

What was the last song NSYNC released?

The last NSYNC single was “Girlfriend,” featuring rapper Nelly. It debuted on Jan. 14, 2002.

Justin Timberlake gave a birthday shout-out to one of his former *NSYNC bandmates and it also came with an exciting reveal. Earlier this week, on August 8th, JC Chasez celebrated his 47th birthday. “And happy birthday to my brother @jcchasezofficial,” Timberlake wrote on his Instagram story.

The upload also included a short video showing JT and JC vibing together in the studio. The former boy band stars nod their heads while listening to something before sharing a fist bump. Timberlake added an eyes emoji at the bottom of his post, clearly teasing that the two have something in the works.

Fans have been holding out for an *NSYNC reunion for years. In 2022, the reunion rumors were reignited after recent birthday boy JC joined TikTok and tagged his former bandmates Timberlake, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Lance Bass in one of his first posts. The post followed three of the five members having a mini-reunion at a wedding and giving guests an impromptu performance of their biggest hits “Bye Bye Bye,” complete with the iconic choreography.
