Forbes: NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’ Surges More Than 800% In Sales
NSYNC was one of the most successful musical acts of the ‘90s and early ‘00s all around the world. Of course, once Justin Timberlake broke away from the group and embarked on a highly successful solo career, the boy band’s music began to fade from the charts. In the decades since, they have largely been relegated to nostalgic favorites status…but a special occasion has brought them back and made them sales champions again.
The boy band’s “Bye Bye Bye” is featured in the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which has turned out to be one of the hottest releases of the year. The title recently passed $1 billion at the box office globally, and it’s only been in theaters for a few weeks.
Deadpool & Wolverine is so popular, even the songs in the film are experiencing huge gains. “Bye Bye Bye” is one such smash, which is selling well once again, decades after it was first released, after Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman introduced it to millions–and reminded many others how much they enjoy the track in the first place.
Billboard: *NSYNC’s ‘Bye Bye Bye’ Rides ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Spotlight to Top 10 on Global Excl. U.S. Chart
*NSYNC’s “Bye Bye Bye” bounds to the top 10, to No. 8 from No. 16, on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart. The song, originally a smash in 2000, is newly fueled by its synch in the box office blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine, which has grossed over $1 billion globally since it premiered July 26.
PEOPLE: The Five Members of *NSYNC: Where Are They Now?
It’s been more than 25 years since the world was first introduced to Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass as *NSYNC.
After first making a splash in Germany in 1996, the band went on to release their debut self-titled album,*NSYNC, in March 1998. In 2002, though, the group went on hiatus, however in the years since, the members have reunited on various occasions for personal milestones, their Walk of Fame ceremony and in 2024, to perform together live for the first time since the 2013 MTV VMAs at Timberlake’s concert in L.A.
In addition to being featured on Timberlake’s latest album Everything I Thought It Was in the song “Paradise,” the five men worked together for the first time in 20 years for the 2023 song “Better Place” from the Trolls Band Together soundtrack.
A recent reunion — sans Timberlake as he continues to tour Europe — saw the remaining four members stepping out for the July 22 premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, which features their song, “Bye Bye Bye.”
While it’s unclear what might be in store in terms of a reunion — with Kirkpatrick telling Entertainment Tonight, “Well, we’ve been talking about it for a while. We’re kicking the tires, seeing if the car will still drive, and, you know, we’ll see where it leads” — see what everyone has been up to individually in the years since the band initially took a breather.
